How will I hear about updates, etc. during the season?
We were hoping to use the Swimmingly app, and may still do so, but want to ensure we have a communication resource lined up prior to the start of practice. As such, we will use Remind, a school/organization communication app. To join, please visit the Remind Invite link: https://www.remind.com/join/narwhals25.
Is my child eligible for the swim team?
Swimmers ages 4 - 14 years old are eligible for the team. Younger swimmers must be four by June 1, 2025, and able to swim half the distance of the pool reasonably independently (approximately 12 yards). We recognize that these swimmers are still developing skills and may need some extra support at the beginning of the season, but for their own success and safety, they need to be comfortable in the water and able to swim short distances without any help.
How long is the swim season?
Swim team commitment is only for the month of June.
What time are practices?
Practices start on May 27 with morning practice offered every day and evening practices offered Mondays and Wednesdays only. Practice times are assigned by swimmers' ages (see below).
8:30-9:15: 11-12 & 13-14
9:15-10:00: 7-8 & 9-10
10:00-10:30: 6 & under
Are meets required and when / where are they held?
Meets are not required but highly encouraged to get the most out of the season! Meets are typically Tuesday / Thursday and alternate between home and away (see the calendar below). Home meet arrival time is 4:30 p.m. for warm-ups; away meet warm-ups start at 5:00 p.m.
Aside from the registration fees, what else is required of me / my family?
We rely on parent volunteers to run both home and meets, and therefore require each family to volunteer for two meets and one invitational slot. Children 6 and under swim at the beginning of the meet and are not required to stay for the entire meet.
What gear is needed to be a Narwhal? Children should bring a towel, goggles, and water to practice each day. Purchasing a team suit is encouraged but not required (link to the Elsmore Team Site TBD). Camping chairs, at least one towel, sunscreen, and plenty of snacks and drinks are recommended for meets.
What is "Invitational?" At the end of June, there will be a day-long invitational meet where the swimmers show their Narwhal spirit and compete against all of the other teams in our conference, the Metro League. This is a very fun event and swimmers look forward to this each year! This year's invitational will be at Pike High School on June 26. More details to come...
Anything else I should know or plan to attend?
The season kicks off with a Mock Meet on Thursday, May 29 to help acclimate new swimmers to meet operations. And we will end the season with an Awards Banquet and late swim on Sunday, July 06.
Who do I reach out to if I have question and how can I stay informed throughout the season?
You can reach the Narwhals Parent Committee anytime via email at northwillowfarmsnarwhals@gmail.com. Communications will be ongoing throughout the season via this site and the Remind app.
